hansI was born in Amsterdam the Netherlands, where I had my schooling and spent my young adult years. My father had been a political prisoner during WWII, which he survived, but Holland had become too small for him after the war. He and my two brothers left the home country for the United States in 1957, my husband and I and our three children followed at the tail end of 1959. Quickly there after, I became a mom again, and now had 3 Dutch and one American child, equally divided: two boys and two girls.

We settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I became a medical assistant, a profession I enjoyed immensely.

I have been taking pictures since I was in my twenties, first mostly of my children, with a occasional “lucky shot”.

A funny thing started to happen, People began asking me for copies of my pictures. Strange I thought, but willingly I supplied.

My focus from personal picture taking to professionally selling pictures came when a college was built in the town where I live, I crossed paths with the administrator, who complained about a lack of art work to decorate the halls of his college. I offered to let him borrow some of my enlargements, as they were just hanging in my bedroom anyway.

Much to my surprise I was “discovered” and the rest is history as they say.
